Dorothy Marie Craner
(December 17, 1923 - June 1, 2009)

Dorothy Marie Craner, age 85, passed away peacefully at her son's home in Taylor, Arizona on Monday, June 1, 2009. She was first child of seven born to the late Cyrus and Mabel Strebel Hughes on December 17, 1923 in Evanston, Wyoming.

On June 10, 1942 she married Martin LeRoy "Roy" Craner, who preceded her in death on July 3, 1995. Together they had five children, Michael, Greg, Sherry, Brent and David.

Dorothy had the pleasure of working with her daughter Sherry, at Hearing Aid Specialist from 1980 to 2001, when her health forced her to retire. Her first love was her family, which is always growing. Dorothy loved to travel which she did extensively, she also loved genealogy, family history and Book of Remembrances. She was a Primary Teacher, Primary President, and Visiting Teacher in her church callings. Dorothy supported each of her grandsons on their missions. She loved being a "Pink Lady", volunteering at Maryvalle Hospital in Phoenix. Above all, Dorothy was the best grandma babysitter.

Some of Dorothy's hobbies included making afghans for each of her family members, she made candles, tole painted, took pictures of "everything" and she loved to go fishing. She also thoroughly loved playing games, especially cards and Yahtzee, and whatever the game, she always found a way to cheat. Dorothy lived life to the end and loved it. She was able to see all her children before she died and told them that "she was happy" and for all of them to be happy and that she "loved them more." She loved all her children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren; her family was her life. Dorothy wanted us to celebrate her life with laughter, loving memories and jokes. We will miss her, but "Thank Heaven, Families are Forever".

Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses, Michael & Juanita, Greg & Pam, Sherry & Roger "Buck" Appleby, Brent & Pam, David & Alma; 21 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; siblings, Boyd Hughes, Max (Dova) Hughes, Jackie Hill, Sandy (Cletus) Kimbrell, Dennis (Lana) Hughes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; parents, Cyrus & Mabel; brother, Donald; sister-in-law, Mary Hughes; brother-in-law, Keith Hill; one granddaughter Jessica and great granddaughter Jennica (whom have frequently visited her this past week).

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday - June 6, 2009 at the 8th Avenue Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Yuma, Arizona. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the church and one hour prior to service on Saturday morning. Interment will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Yuma.
