G. Harold Johnson, 79, of Show Low, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, in Scottsdale.

He was born December 27, 1929, in Miami, AZ, to Kearney and Gladys (Andrews) Johnson, Sr. He was raised and attended school in Miami until moving to Phoenix in his early teens, where he attended Phoenix Union High School. He met JoAnn Rhey there, and they were married on August 3, 1946.

He was a plumber and pipefitter for Local Union 469, and was a member of that union for 62 years. He traveled on large construction jobs all over the country and held many positions within the union. He retired to Show Low in 1986.

In his younger days he was very active with his children's school activities, and continued to be an advocate for children throughout his life.

He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club, and was a member of White Mountain Lodge #62 of Show Low and Chalcedony Lodge #6 of Holbrook; Eastern Star Chapters Mizpah #57 of Show Low and Liberty #23 of Holbrook and El Zaribah Shrine Temple of Phoenix and the White Mountain Shrine, where he had headed the Clothe-a-Child program for several years. He was a member of the White Mountain United Methodist Church. He loved to fish and hunt, and was a talented woodworker. He loved watching sports on television, always saying "there must be a game on somewhere!"

Survivors include four daughters and two sons, Maggie (Chuck) Gierke of Scottsdale, Georgene Kloepper of Sun City, Jeannine Ebert of Show Low, Judi (Jim) Bee of Lakeside, Bob (Lisa) Blanchard of Ohio and Tom (Lucy) Blanchard of France; a sister, Marie McGuire of Mesa; a brother, Kearney (Beth) Johnson, Jr. of Show Low; 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives JoAnn and Norma (Blanchard); a son, George Harold, Jr.; brothers Donald Thomas, Henry Thomas, Franklin Johnson and Lynn Johnson, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 9, at White Mountain United Methodist Church in Show Low. Burial will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 10, at Greenwood Memory Lawn in Phoenix.

In lieu of flowers you may choose to make a donation to the Transportation Fund Shrine Children's Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at the Black's Mortuary in Show Low. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at White Mountain United Methodist Church in Show Low.

Burial will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, at Greenwood Memory Lawn in Phoenix.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Transportation Fund Shrine Children's Hospital.
