| THE WICKENBURG SUN THE WEEK OF APRIL 23, 2003 Jerry F. Welsh Jerry F. Welsh, 82, died peacefully on April 19, 2003 at the Beatitudes Campus of Care in Phoenix, Ariz. where she resided since 1998. Jerry grew up in Morristown, where her father, Jack Hamilton, was stationmaster at the Castle Hot Springs Railroad Station, and her mother, Jess Hamilton, was Morristown's postmistress and schoolteacher. She was a graduate of Wickenburg High School (class of 1938) and Arizona State College (now ASU). After college, she moved to northern California to teach. Jerry taught in several school districts before joining the faculty at Crittenden Junior High School in Mountain View, Calif., where she taught for 20 years. In 1948, she married John M. (Jack) Welsh, of Menlo Park, Calif. Jack and Jerry lived in northern California until 1977, when they moved to Wickenburg for their retirement. In Wickenburg, Jerry was known as an active and dedicated volunteer at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. Jerry was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. In her professional life, she was a gifted and passionate teacher whose students continued to write her letters of appreciation long after her retirement. She loved the desert and the Hassayampa, fishing, gardening, and being in the circle of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her sisters, Jean Hamilton Dyck and Jacque Hamilton. She is survived by her brother, Rupert Hamilton (of Tucson); sons John (of Windsor, Ontario), Peter (of Tempe), and Christopher (of Livermore, Calif.); and grandsons Daniel (an ASU student), and William (a high school student). A private family service will be held in May, with burial in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.
