Melvin E. Miller

Melvin E. Miller, 86, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He was born on November 18, 1922 in Defiance, OH; to Arthur Fred and Minnie Emma (Elling) Miller.

Melvin moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ; 22 years ago from Defiance, OH. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, WWII and spent 3 years in the Pacific. Melvin was a member of the Tokyo Bay Occupation Force that entered the Tokyo Bay Area on August 30, 1945 and captured the Japanese Battle Ship, "The HIJMS NAGATO". He married Patricia Ryan in 1946. Melvin retired on March 1, 1983 after working for General Motors Central Foundry Division for 42 years credited service.

Surviving are two daughters, Vivian Lewis of Crystal, MI; Constance Miller of Stockbridge, GA; two brothers, Harold Miller of Addison, MI; Murlan Miller of Defiance, OH; two granddaughters and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Patricia and sister, Mathilda Schroeder.

A visitation will be held at Lietz-Fraze Chapel on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Words of wisdom and inspiration will be expressed by Pastor Doug Bock. Burial will take place at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations be made to Hospice of Havasu, P.O. Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ; 86405.
