Mary Pouquette, 86, of Williams, AZ, died peacefully on December 27, 2003. Mary was born on March 12, 1917 in the old mining town of Golden State, AZ to Mikel Kerkes and Anika Bodiroga. She was the oldest of seven children.

When the children reached school age the family moved to Wickenburg, AZ. Mary graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1935. She married Pierre Pouquette, her childhood sweetheart, on October 6, 1940 and became a life partner in the sheep and cattle ranching business.

Pierre and Mary established homes in Wickenburg and Williams moving back and forth as the sheep were moved to summer ranges on the family's ranch near Williams, AZ and winter pastures on Boswell Farms in Waddell, AZ. When the Boswell family sold their land to Del Webb for the building of Sun City, Pierre and Mary became residents of Parker, AZ for the winter months.

Pierre's retirement from the sheep business in 1978 brought them back to Wickenburg for the winter months. They continued to spend their summers in Williams. Mary centered her life on her four children and extended family. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed baking. No one passed through her house without having an opportunity to eat. She was a seamstress and had mastered the lost art of smocking. She was a Girl Scout leader and home room mother and active cheerleader at her grand-children's baseball, basketball, and football games.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have many cherished memories of their "GaGa". Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Pierre, son Tommy, grandson Michael Payne, brothers Nicky, Tommy, Mitchell and sister Stella.

She is survived by her daughters Melanie (Jerry) Daugherty, Annette (Kenny) Bingham, and Denise Pouquette; sisters Sarah Roehlk and Annie Passey; grandchildren Doug Bingham, Susan Bingham, Jerry Payne, Denise Daugherty and Mitch Daugherty; great-grandchildren Kyle Bingham, Tayler Bingham, Lexi Payne, Rylie Wells, and Tatum Bingham.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 2, 2004 from 4 to 6 PM with a Rosary Service to follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Williams, AZ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2004 at 1:00 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Mary's name may be given to the March of Dimes Greater Arizona Chapter. 1616 East Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85016.

Arrangements by Whitney & Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home.
