FUNERAL SERVICES FOR JOHNNY E. NICHOLS TO BE HELD THURSDAY Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Elton Nichols, age 21, a life long resident of Thatcher, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Thatcher 2nd Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bishop Gordon Stowell will officiate. Burial will be in the Thatcher Cemetery. Mr. Nichols, son of Lucille Frances Fields and Clifton Ellis Nichols, was born December 6, 1945 in Safford, Arizona. He was educated in the Thatcher Public Schools and lived most of his life there. During the summer vacations from school he worked for the El Paso Natural Gas Company, and later has been employed as a heavy equipment operator. He was killed last Friday night, April 21, 1967 when the car in which he was riding plunged over an 100 foot embankment on the San Francisco River three miles west of Luna, New Mexico. The driver, Theron "Lefty" Wilkins, and another passenger in the vehicle, 11-year-old Steven Cluff, also lost their life in the crash. Services for Mr. Wilkins will be held Thursday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. in Springerville with interment on Friday in Nutrioso Cemetery. Young Cluff's services will be held Saturday April 29, 1967 in Pima. Mr. Nichols is survived by his parents, Clifton and Lucille Nichols of Thatcher, and one sister, Mrs. Elda Lou Allred of Globe.
