The Wickenburg Sun the week of July 7, 2004 A.W. "Bill" Prince, Jr., of Surprise, Ariz., passed away on June 18, 2004. Bill was born November 24, 1919 in Jerome, Ariz. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Bratton) Prince and his mother-in-law Peggy Bratton. He is survived by his brother Richard (Marge) Prince, California; brother-in-law Orville (Virginia) Bratton, California; many nieces and nephews; lots of friends. Bill went to school in Jerome and then on to Prescott High School where he graduated in 1938. While he was in high school he became a big basketball star. He married Elizabeth "Cis" Bratton. He joined the Army and served in the 9th Air Force in World War II in 1941. Bill was in the 391st Bomb Group, 523rd Bomb Squadron. He flew a B-26 Marauder out of Royes-Ami, France. He was a charter member of the Marauder Historical Society and a member of the VFW. After the service he joined "Cis" in Prescott. Later they moved to Wickenburg and opened Prince's Gift Store. Bill was the first Wickenburg Country Club Champion in January 1951. Something he was very proud of. He loved golfing, hunting and fishing. In the early 1950's he and "Cis" opened the Bar 7 Restaurant next to the Bar 7 Bar which was owned by his mother-in-law, Peggy Bratton. Then in the 1970's, Bill, "Cis" and Peggy retired and moved to Grass Valley, Calif. to be near family. After "Cis" and Peggy's passing, Bill moved back to Wickenburg.
