Walter W. Bartol

Walter W. Bartol was born June 24, 1931 in Phoenix, Ariz., to parents Walter T. Bartol and Mae Trimble Bartol.

Walter died July 9, 2004.

He was a graduate of North Phoenix High School and a graduate of the University of Arizona in 1954 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He then went to work for his father-in-law Tommy Walker, managing the Walker feedlot for 18 years.

In 1969, he began employment with Valley National Bank, retiring 18 years later as vice president of the Agriculture Loan Department. He married Betty Walker Bartol in 1951 and soon Tom, Lisa and Lynn arrived. With children came a passion for Little League, Maricopa County 4-H Fair, Arizona National Livestock Show and his lifetime commitment to youth activities. His one other passion was the crossword puzzle every morning. It was not a good day unless he completed two with a pen!

Walter and Betty retired to Wickenburg from Peoria in 1999 where he continued his lifetime membership in the Elks.

Walter is survived by his wife Betty; sons Tom (Margaret) and Lynn; daughter Lisa Baskett (Bruce); grandchildren Rebecca, Cassandra, Walker; sisters Marjorie and Helen; and sister-in-law Bobbi Keith.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, July 14) at Menke Funeral Home, 103rd and Grand Avenue. A gathering of family and friends will begin at noon at the Elks Lodge on Frontier Street in Wickenburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Arizona National Livestock Show Scholarship Fund, 1826 West McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85007 or the American Heart Association, 2929 South 48th St., Tempe, AZ 85282.

Arrangements were handled by Menke Funeral Home.
