Judson Baker

Judson Franklin Baker, long time Tucson songwriter, died at his westside home November 6, 2007. Born in Bisbee, May 2, 1941.

He and others recorded his songs over the last 45 years. Most notably, "Long Way From LA", recorded by Canned Heat. "Yo Te Quiero' which became Mexican movie star; Anjelica Maria's largest selling song in the U.S. Others include "Qual es la Verdad", "Lagrimas de Sangre" and a host of others.

He was prominent in the 1960's movement to obtain the El Rio Neighborhood Center on Speedway which was just a golf course at the time. He recorded "Los Valientes de Tucson", to raise funds for the movement. He and his mother, Margarita "Ma" Baker were awarded a plaque at the time when the center was built.

His translated works of century old hispanic songs were archived in the Arizona Historical Society records 40 years ago and he regularly performed these works for both U of A and PCC classes as a guest.

He had been a grand mal epileptic and had familial essential tremor since childhood developing Parkinson's Disease the last decade of his life. Also, CHF with arrythmias and pacemaker and COPD.

Those around him prayed constantly for him as he had lived in constant pain from severe stenosis throughout his spine-Mania's kept him reclusive throughout his life coming out only to play music and record his music with his son and good friends which he did until the very end.

He will be most sadly missed by his son, Judson and x-wife and caretaker, Linda and other family members.

His friends will mourn the loss of his music which will live on in a website devoted to his music and life.

A private service will be held. Donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease or Essential Tremor Foundations.
