Herbert Max Fischer, 86, of Prescott, born April 24, 1920, in New York City, N.Y., died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at his home in Prescott.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, at the American Lutheran Church, 1085, Scott Drive, Prescott.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Prescott Noon Lions Club, P.O. Box 2215, Prescott, Ariz., 86302.

Herbert M. Fischer, 86, of Prescott, passed away on June 17, 2006. He was born in Bronx, N.Y., on April 24, 1920, to Johanna Karl and Max Fischer. Herb lived in Connecticut as a child.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1940. In 1944 he married Elizabeth Margaret Walsh in Atlanta, Ga. Together they traveled the world for 19 years. Herb and Betty lived in Germany, where their only daughter was born. They also lived in Japan and traveled all over the United States. Herb retired as a CW04 from the Army in 1960. At that time, Herb went to work for Southern Union Gas Company in El Paso, Texas. He was then transferred to Prescott, and in 1967 on to Flagstaff as a district accountant. He retired in 1985. Once retired, Herb took time to enjoy his love for nature, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Herb was a member of the Prescott Noon Lions Club and served as Treasurer for the Northern Arizona Chapter of Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 1986.

He is survived by his daughter Janie Phare of Prescott; his sister Johanna Purwin of College Point, N.Y.; grandchildren," Ricardo and Stephanie Rios of Frankfort, NY, and SPC Kristen Phare of Fort Campbell, Ky., currently serving in Iraq; great- grandchildren, Elizabeth and Tanya Rios of Frankfort, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Herbs life will take place Monday, June 26, at 10 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his name to the Prescott Noon Lions Club, P.O. Box 2215, Prescott, Ariz., 86302.

The Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
