Heritage Funeral Chapel July 2009 Jim was born on October 23, 1942 in Huntington, Indiana to Charles L. and Dorothy M. Coates. He joined the Air Force in November 1960 after graduating from Huntington High School. Jim taught at Chanute AFB Tech School. He served in Vietnam, in Germany with the E3A unit, and as the Aerospace Ground Equipment Branch Superintendent at Travis AFB, CA. Jim retired with 27 years in May 1987 as a Chief Master Sgt. Jim received a BS degree in Technology from Southern Illinois University and his teaching degree from Ottawa University. He taught for 13 years at Skyview Elementary in the Peoria School District. When Jim retired from the state of Arizona, he taught for three more years at the ACES. Jim succumbed to his long battle with cancer on June 28, 2009. He leaves his wife, Bobbie, of 45 years, their daughters Kathryn Shelton and Christine Huber, four grandsons, three granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. Jim joins their son Chuck, Mom and Dad, sister Jean, and brothers Bill and Jerry in their waiting family circle. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, July 2, at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W.
