Alberta Ruth Phillips

Alberta Ruth Phillips passed peacefully at home in Glendale, AZ on July 5, 2009.

Alberta was born the second of six children on her family's farm in Kern County, KS to Harrison Phillips and Gertrude (Parks) Phillips. Along with her family, she moved to Arizona in 1935. She was proudly employed for many years in retail management at Babbitt's Dept. Store before embarking on a second career at Farmers Insurance. Alberta will always be remembered for her devotion to family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her brother Day Lowell Phillips, sister Vivian (Louis) de BOER, husband Charles Edmund Thurman, husband William Ritchey, husband Harold Phillips and son Charles Day Thurman.

Alberta is survived by three sisters; Marjorie (Jim) Smart of Oakland, CA, Lucinda Elinore Finney of Laguna Nigel, CA and Virginia Dutson of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by her son Ted Thurman and daughter Donna (Bert) Molinsky, both of Glendale, AZ.

Alberta was blessed by 14 grandchildren: Avery (Susan) Molinsky of Phoenix, AZ, Lucy (Gordon) Makimoto of Vacaville, CA, Lois (Erik) Dold and Sarah (Josh) Greener both of Peoria, AZ, Steven (Jaime) Thurman of Portland, OR, Mark (Bobbie) Thurman and Denise Thurman both of Glendale, AZ, Charles E. Thurman of Waldorf, MD, Margaret (Daniel) Marquez, Robert Thurman, Elizabeth Thurman and Julie (Michael) Carlile all of Beaverton, OR, Jonathan Thurman and Christopher Thurman.

Alberta was extra blessed to be "GiGi" to 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird, Peoria, AZ 85381.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Apollo Baptist Church, 11611 N. 51st Ave., Glendale, AZ 85304. Burial services immediately following at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6290 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, AZ 85307.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Alberta's name to Hospice of the Valley.
