The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ March 6, 2002, p. A7 Edward P. Dillard of Wickenburg, died March 1 at his home. He was 81. Ed was born July 4, 1920 in Tucson. He was a lifelong resident of Arizona and a resident of Wickenburg since 1940. On Aug. 1, 1942, he married Vivian Daniel in Salome. In October 1942 Ed went into the U.S. Army Air Corps and was discharged in 1943. Ed and Vivian had one son, George Dillard, born in 1994. Shortly after George's birth, Ed moved his family to Patagonia, Ariz., where he worked as miner for Ducain Mine outside the town of Nogales. For the next several years, Ed worked at various mines across Arizona including the Cleo Patrick Mine, at Artillery Peak near Alamo Lake. Ed and Vivian moved back to Wickenburg in 1955. Ed then drove a truck for several asphalt companies out of Phoenix and Flagstaff, for many years. In 1964 Ed and Vivian purchased Pepperwood Canyon and lived there ever since. In 1974 Ed moved to Alaska to gain his A-card in order to work on the Alaskan Pipeline in the Teamsters Union. Vivian joined him in 1975, where they lived in Valdez for approximately one year. Vivian then returned to Wickenburg and Ed continued his work further north on the pipeline. He joined Vivian back in Wickenburg in late 1976. In 1981 Ed founded Wickenburg Concrete and Materials with his son, George Dillard, and Ron Mallicoat; they later bought out Ron, and father and son ran the business for the next 17 years. The business was sold in 1998. Ed lived a long and very interesting life and made friends all over Arizona. He will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife, Vivian; his son, George Dillard and wife Janet, of Wickenburg; two granddaughters, Darla Green and husband Billy Green of Wickenburg, and Joye Pouquette and husband Clay Pouquette of Yuma; and great-grandchildren Danny, Eddie, Jennifer, Bobbi Jo, and C.J. Ed is also survived by two brothers, Jack Dillard of Tucson and Clifford Dillard of Bullhead City; and sister Frances Pfeil of Bullhead City. He was preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Gertrude V. Dillard; brother George Dillard; and sisters Ella Barrick and Vivian Moore. The family would like to express a special thanks to Beverly Pendergast and Pam Lee for their wonderful care of Ed during the last few months. Visitation will be held before services on Wednesday, March 6, from noon to 1 p.m. Services will follow at 1 p.m. at Frey Funeral home, 980 N. Tegner St., Wickenburg.
