The Beacon News, Aurora, Illinois Friday, July 3, 1998, page F2 Carl R. Jensen, Ret. Chief Petty officer, 74, of Prescott, Arizona passed away on June 27, 1998 at the V.A. Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on November 14, 1923 in Geneva, Illinois. Shortly after graduation from Parker High School in Chicago, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. After the war, he worked as laborer for Driessen Construction Co. in St. Charles for a short time and later a lineman for the City of St. Charles. As a member of the Naval Reserves, he was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. After the Korean War had ended, he decided to make the Navy his career. He spent most of his time on cruisers in the Navy traveling through the Atlantic, Pacific oceans and Mediterranean, North and Caribbean seas. He served during the 1960's and early 70's in the Viet Nam war. His speciality was Gun control and acted as a trouble shooter from ship to ship. He retired from the Navy after 30 years as a Chief Petty Officer to San Diego, California and later to Prescott, Arizona. While living in San Diego, he trained the all volunteer deck crew for the second modern sailing of the Star of India museum tall sailing ship. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #5036 in St. Charles and A.F. and A.M. Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his daughter, Carla R. Phillips of Anderson, Indiana; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Melissa Phillips; his wife, Jeanne of Prescott, Arizona; step-daughters, Daneen, Deborah and Dana Lisa; two sisters, Mary Jensen and Norma L. (Paul) Jacobsen both of St. Charles; nieces and nephews, Christe (Lawrence) Eigenhauser, JoAnn, Duane and Peter Jacobsen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl R. Sr. and Irma I. Jensen, both of St. Charles. Memorial services were private. Cremation was held in Prescott, Arizona. Burial of cremains will be held at sea from a Naval Ship at a later date. A plague in his memory will be placed at the Point Loma Lighthouse National Park in San Diego, California. Local arrangements were made by the Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles. |
