Robert Allen Metcalf, formerly of Riverside, died May 20 of kidney failure at his home in Prescott, Ariz. He was 74.

Memorial services will be in Prescott at a later date.

Interment will be private.

Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home in Prescott is handling arrangements.

Mr. Metcalf, who was born in Aztec, N. M., lived in Riverside for 15 years before moving to Prescott. He worked as an administrator and director for the Arizona Health Department for 20 years before he retired in 1983.

He graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1941.

Mr. Metcalf served in the U. S. Navy for 20 years, having retired with the rank of chief petty officer in 1961. He later served in fleet reserves for 10 years.

He was commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1704 in Globe, Ariz., and was a member of the Elks Lodge in Globe.

Mr. Metcalf enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and cooking.

He is survived by a daughter, Sister Vickie Kilian of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Daniel, of Lakeside, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and four sisters, Jean Snider of Clarkdale, Ariz., Dori Hunt of Riverside, Helen Willeford of Ukiah and Shirley Patton of Vista.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Arizona Kidney Foundation, 4203 E. Indian School Road, Suite 140, Phoenix, 85018, or Hospice Family Care, 100 E. Sheldon, Prescott, 86301.
