Elmer Donald Burns, 67, of Yuma, Ariz., died July 16, 1998, at his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Vista Funeral Home, 11357 E. 40th St., Yuma, the Chaplain Rita McInnis officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Vista Cemetery. Private family visitation will be immediately prior to the service Tuesday.

A luncheon will follow the service at the Loyal Order Moose Lodge No. 1627 at 13441 E. Frontage Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Yuma, P.O. Box 4211, Yuma, AZ, 85366.

Mr. Burns was born Feb. 12, 1931, at Springfield, the son of Elmer C. and Anna Weers Burns. He married Patsy Flanagan. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Donald (Sharon) Burns, Charles P. (Mary) Burns, Richard (Patty) Burns; three daughters, Cyndie Thayer, Barbara A. (Steve) Griffin, Kathleen (Jim) Pollard; one sister, Gloria Wightman; and 12 grandchildren.

Also surviving are three nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Burns graduated from Normal Community High School in 1949. While a resident of the town, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge 1017, Loyal Order of Moose, American Legion, and St. John's Lutheran Church in Bloomington.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

After moving to Arizona in 1964, he was employed as the transportation manager for United Dairymen of Arizona, Tempe, Ariz.; Stanley Lumber Company, Prescott, Ariz.; and he moved to Yuma in 1995 after retiring as a truss builder from Double G Truss Plant, Chino Valley, Ariz.

Pallbearers at the funeral will be Charles and Richard Burns, Matthew Griffin, Stanley Clements, Doyce Garrard and Jim Pollard. Honorary pallbearers include Justin and Craig Burns.
