Verl T. Marnell

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Verl T. Marnell, 83, of Prescott, Ariz., died April 12, 1998, at the Fort Whipple V.A. Medical Center Hospice Unit in Prescott.

He was born June 18, 1914, in Greenbush, Kan., to John and Elizabeth (Brophy) Marnell. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1935.

During World War II, he served in the 44th Bomb Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps for 33 months in England.

Mr. Marnell worked for 38 years for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He moved to Prescott from Fresno, Calif., in 1964 and retired from the Prescott V.A. Medical Center in 1978.

He was a Boy Scout leader of Prescott Troop 13 for many years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Prescott Camper Coach Club, the Prescott Employees Federal Credit Union, and was president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In recent years, he was a charter member and president of the St. Vincent dePaul Society and was involved in the opening of the St. Vincent's Thrift Shop in Prescott.

He enjoyed renovating old homes, hiking, camping and visiting historical sites.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Jean (Roskob) Marnell of the home; two daughters, Mary Ann George of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Martha Marnell of Mesa, Ariz.; three sons, George of Walla Walla, Wash., Robert of Casper, Wyo., and Jim of Prescott; a sister, Kathleen Kraier of Safford, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.

The service was April 16 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Inurnment with military honors was April 17 in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at Phoenix.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Vincent dePaul Society, 150 Fleury Ave., Prescott, Ariz. 86301.
