Gladys M. Boyer, 97, born Jan. 15, 1912 in Chicago, Ill., passed away July 10, 2009 in Prescott, Ariz.

No services are planned. Inurnment will take place in Clearwater, Fla.

Gladys Mary Boyer, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went peacefully in her sleep to God on July 10, 2009, at the age of 97. Gladys was born to James and Theresa Boucek of Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 15, 1912. She grew up in the Chicago area and married Charles Prohaska and later had a son, Charles J. Prohaska.

The family moved to Riverside, Ill., where Gladys worked at Riverside Presbyterian Church as the assistant to the minister and was a Deacon of the church. Later she became a librarian at the Riverside Public Library.

Upon retirement, the family moved to Clearwater, Fla. Gladys and Charles attended Trinity Presbyterian Church where she held many offices including President of the Women and was church Elder.

Gladys continued to live in Clearwater after the death of her husband Charles Prohaska and later married Charles Boyer. They spent many years traveling and enjoying the family. They moved to Prescott, Ariz., in 1997. Gladys lived at the Las Fuentes Resort Village for 10 years and then at Las Fuentes Assisted Living where she was lovingly cared for by the staff and Granite Mountain Hospice. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Prescott.

Gladys was a talented seamstress, knitter and quilter. Her love of books continued throughout her life. Her family was her life. She is quoted saying many times, "I love the Lord and my family."

She is preceded in death by Charles Prohaska (husband), Charles Boyer (husband) and Scott Prohaska (grandson).

Survivors include her son Charles Prohaska and wife Carolyn of Prescott; and stepdaughter MJ Boyer of New York City; grandchildren Judith Ely (Bret) of Prescott and Gary Prohaska (Paula) of Cary, N.C.; and great-grandchildren Matt Ely and Katie Lykins, Kristin Ely and Lainey Prohaska.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Las Fuentes Resort Village Social Room.

The Reverend William J. Guise will lead the service with Pastor Jane Cheek assisting.

Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Prescott and Granite Mountain Hospice.

Inurnment will take place in Clearwater, Fla.

Gladys was an inspiration to all who knew her.
