Mary Jean O'Brien

Mary Jean O'Brien, 86, who worked 28 years for the Operations Research Office of Johns Hopkins University before retiring in 1977 as a research analyst, died of pneumonia Jan. 5 at Shady Grove Hospital.

Mrs. O'Brien, a former Bethesda resident who had lived in Gaithersburg since 1991, was born in Prescott, Ariz. She graduated from the University of Arizona and received a master's degree in economics from American University.

She settled in the Washington area after serving with the Waves during World War II.

She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Bethesda.

Her marriage to Robert O'Brien ended in divorce.

Survivors include a sister, Katherine Born, of Tucson.
