Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ August 21, 2002, p. A18 Gerald "Jerry" Maurice Joncas Gerald "Jerry" Maurice Joncas, age 32, died Aug. 12, in Astoria, Ore. Jerry was a graduate of Wickenburg High School and attended school in New London, Conn. Jerry joined the Coast Guard in 1988, serving 14 years and during Operation Desert Storm. During his military career he was awarded the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Commandant's Letter of Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (four awards), a Meritorious Team Commendation, two Unit Commendations, four Meritorious Unit Commendations, and two National Defense Service Medals. Jerry adored and loved his children. He was an avid music lover and sports fan. To all his friends, coaches, teachers, priests, co-workers and a very special friend, you all touched his life as he touched yours. The family request all memorials be made to the Prevention of Suicide, 7101 N. 55th Ave., Glendale, AZ 85301. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Michael M. Joncas. He is survived by his mother, Shirley A. Joncas of Wickenburg; sons Allen Michael and Zachary S. of Wickenburg; sister Cindi Bowman and brother-in-law Scott Bowman of Wickenburg; niece Brittany Bowman and nephew Eric Bowman of Wickenburg; grandmother Iniece Joncas of Las Vegas, Nev.; aunt Norma Haile and uncle Jerry Haile of Maui, Hawaii. Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 232 N. Tegner St., Wickenburg. Military burial will follow at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.
