| Garnett, KS - Lonnie O. Kindred, age 92, of Garnett passed away May 2, 2009 at the Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care Facility. Lonnie was born February 28, 1917 at Berea in Madison County, Kentucky the son of John Harvey and Ella Margaret (VanWinkle) Kindred. Lonnie grew up in Berea, southeastern Indiana, and Lebanon, Ohio. In 1939 he married Luella Belcher; one son was born to this union. They later divorced. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Lonnie worked as a pipeliner throughout the Mid-West. Lonnie married Alfa Eaves in 1948, she preceded him in death. He resided in Wickenburg, Arizona where he lived for over thirty years and retired. On March 29, 1997 he married Berniece Shaw. They moved to Garnett, Kansas in 2000. Berniece preceded him in death on December 27, 2007. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his son, Buford "Buck" Kindred and his wife, Damaris; four grandchildren, Lisa Kindred, Angela Kindred, Sherrie Kindred Hall, and John H. Kindred; and five great-grandchildren, all of Columbia, South Carolina; older brother, John H. Kindred, of Kannapolis, North Carolina; three step-daughters, Betty Ferguson of Jefferson City, Missouri, Janice McGie of Phoenix, Arizona, and Sandy Peine and husband, Larry, of Garnett, Kansas.
