The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ Lived 101 years!
March 10, 2004, p. B9

Eugene "Gene" Lingenfelser, co-owner of Katy and Gene's Coins and Collectibles on Wickenburg Way, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, in a Sun City Hospice just 33 days after his 101st birthday.
The popular centenarian, known for his sense of humor and positive outlook on life, was a fixture at the shop run by he and his wife of 20 years, Katy.

He was at the shop six days a week, often in his chair in front of the store greeting passersby. His wife recalled the time a few months ago when two out-of-towners, apparently used to the store front stuffed images so often seen around the Southwest, stopped in front of her husband and one of them said, "Oh look, this one looks real." "Gene just broke out laughing and almost gave them a heart attack," she said.

Born in Maysville, Ky. on Feb. 3. 1903, he was in the grocery business, owning and operating supermarkets in Indiana for some 50 years before his retirement in 1952.

He was a member of the Clarksburg Indiana Christian Church for 42 years and was a Lifetime Charter Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lodge 1065 in Connersville, Ind.

He and his wife Katy moved to Wickenburg in 1998.
He is survived by several step-children and grandchildren and his wife, the former Kathryn R. Richter, who said, "Gene's last words were for his close friends. They were, 'Tell my friends to avoid the Wahoo.'"

Funeral services by Frey Funeral Home this week were private.
