Lloyd Sanford Pruitt

His passion was for mining, his work was in pipe/steamfitting, his duty was with the Rangers, and his love was for his wife and family. He would offer up a grin for free, compassion if you deserved it, respect if you earned it, and a fight if you tried to back him down. In this manner he earned the respect of all who had an occasion to know him.

Lloyd Sanford Pruitt passed quietly from this world on Aug. 5, 2005 after 88 years of living life his way. He left 45 years in Local 469, 41 years of marriage, four college educated kids, 15 well-loved grandchildren, and a half dozen mining claims in his wake.

He served his country with honor, volunteering to join Colonel William O. Darby's famed U.S. Army Rangers in WWII. Ranger Pruitt stormed the beaches of Sicily and Anzio with F Co., 4th Ranger Battalion, and the beaches of southern France with the First Special Service Force. Single handedly holding off a German patrol earned him a Bronze Star for Valor in Combat. Single handedly holding up a German bullet while leading his squad in a midnight firefight earned him a Purple Heart.

Please bow your head and say a little prayer as this extraordinary man passes to the company of his brothers and sisters, his brothers in arms, his many friends, and his loving wife Barbara, who have passed before him.

Lloyd's children are John Henry Pruitt, Bill Darby Pruitt, Olin Dallas Pruitt, and Doris Jane Simeone. Services will be held at the Frey-Wickenburg Funeral Home at 187 N. Adams St. in Wickenburg, on Saturday, Aug. 13. Viewing will be held at 10 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. All are welcome to stop by.
