Funeral services for Mr. John Símon Simpson were held Friday (Dec. 29) at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Wickenburg, with Fr. George Highberger as celebrant.Rosary and visitation were held Thursday (Dec. 28), also at the church, with interment at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. Johnny Simpson, 60, was born in Phoenix on Oct. 26, 1946. He passed away at his home in Wickenburg on Dec. 25.John was born into a hard-working, ranch-loving family. Therefore his love for the ranch and raising animals came naturally.

Johnny's grandparents Símon and Charlotte Pouquette left France in the early 1900s to homestead in the Williams area and in Wickenburg, where they ran their sheep and cattle business. Johnny worked with his father John and younger brother Larry to carry on the ranching tradition that was so important to him.He was a man who loved life, his wife, his family, and spicy food. He was just as comfortable riding a horse as he was dropping a line in a lake.

There was never enough time for his favorite sport of fishing."Bigger than life" is the best way to describe Johnny; he was tough, strong and proud. He was always traveling in that determined stride, with his no-nonsense look. He was secure in who he was; he hugged his friends because he loved them and was never shy about saying so. It is difficult for all that knew and loved John to say goodbye.

Johnny Simpson is survived by his wife Kathy; sons Chris Rich and Stephen Mohorn; daughter Lacey Beaton; his mother Aimee Simpson; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Sharon Simpson; in-laws Don and Wanda Brandon, Carol Sisco and Larry Sisco; niece and nephews Sage and Randy Hill and Stocker Simpson.

Arrangements were made under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.
