Othel Audmer (Sully) Sullivan

On Tuesday evening, Nov. 21, while at home surrounded by his wife Willie and his daughters, Mr. Sullivan passed from this life and was welcomed into Heaven.

Sully, as he was known to his friends, was born in Konowa, Okla., on Jan. 12, 1920, to William Beecher and Evelyn America Sullivan. When he was a young man, the family moved to Mount Taylor, N.M., (where Sully was employed in the logging business), and then to Pixley, Calif., which remained the family home for many years. In 1942 Sully joined the newly formed Air Corps Division of the U.S. Army, and served in Italy, France and other locations in the Mediterranean.

Upon his return home in 1945, he married beautiful, dark-haired Willie Hicks. After traveling extensively throughout Arizona, Sully and Willie agreed that Wickenburg was where they wanted to make their home and raise their family. They loved its natural beauty and authentic Western flavor, and have enjoyed living here for over 41 years.

Many residents knew Sully as "the Bug Man", owner and operator of Desert Pest Control. He loved meeting and talking with the people of Wickenburg, and thought of each one as his friend. Among the memories treasured by his family are the Sunday pickup rides to Box Canyon with Grandma in tow, for an afternoon of ice cream and target practice. In addition to teaching his children to shoot straight and parallel park with only inches to spare, he also taught them that love and service to others are the most important things in life.

Mr. Sullivan was an ordained minister, and very close to his heart were the services he conducted at the Circle City Nursing Home every Friday morning.

Sully is survived by Willie, his wife of 55 years; three daughters, Evelyn Wheeler of Wickenburg, Rebecka Ryniak of Prescott, and Leigh Harrison of New York City; a son, Allen, also of Wickenburg; his brother Bill Sullivan of Reno, Nev.; his sister Jean Deavours of Visalia, Calif.; and six grandsons, Dennis and Jentry Wheeler of Wickenburg, Barrett Harris of Fort Worth, Texas, and Colt, Cody and Austin Sullivan of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Verna Long, of Wickenburg.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 25 at Frey Funeral Home in Wickenburg. Sully's favorite charities were Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C., 28607 and Life Outreach International, P.O. Box 982000, Fort Worth, Texas 76182.
