The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ March 25, 2009 p. A5 Joe T. "Bucky" Walters was born on Dec. 30, 1939 in Wickenburg, Ariz., to the late Joe and Ethel Walters. Bucky passed away at his home in Wickenburg on March 19. He graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1957. On Feb. 14, 1961, Bucky married Lois Hamilton with whom he spent 48 wonderful years. As a young man, Bucky worked for the Wickenburg Sun, Snyder's Moving Storage, the Arizona Highway Department, and Arizona Public Service. For the next 17 years, he operated the Texaco Gas Station and Bulk Plant in Wickenburg. Much of Bucky's life revolved around the Wickenburg Volunteer Fire Department. He provided 40 years of service as a fireman, with 25 of those years as chief. In 1978 Bucky was elected as the Constable for the Wickenburg Justice Court Precinct, where he served for 24 years. Bucky spent nearly his entire life enjoying the outdoors with his family and friends. His love for hunting, and especially fishing, was unsurpassed. He was a "scientist" for many years, at least when it came to finding ways to make his boat run faster or creating his own fishing lures. With his wife at his side, Bucky spent the latter years of his life traveling the country in search of the next, best lake to fish. Before passing on, he summed it up best by saying, "It sure was fun being Bucky." Bucky was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son. He is survived by his wife Lois, son Donald Walters (Brooke) of Wickenburg, daughter Nancy Walters of Anthem, son Mike Walters (Tonya) of Wickenburg, grandsons Daniel Shuler (Ashley), Christopher Yates, Kyle Brinkman, Austin Brinkman, and Michael Walters, granddaughters Jolea Shuler and Megan Walters, great-grandsons Conner Yates and Bronson Shuler, and great-granddaughter Mavity Kendall. Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg on Thursday (March 26) at 10 a.m. The memorial will be followed by a graveside service at the Wickenburg Cemetery, along with a reception/luncheon at Coffinger Park. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Hospice of the Valley (1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix AZ 85014). Arrangements are by David's Desert Chapel Funeral Home. See Also: Find A Grave |
