| Violet "Vi" Junas Skarecky Born in Berewyn, Illinois on Feb. 24, 1921. Departed on Jan. 10, 2006 and resided in Sedona, Arizona. "We thought she would out live us all, but we were sadly mistaken" Violet "Vi" Junas Skarecky, daughter of Joseph Junas and Irma Pavlovich, was born February 24, 1921 in Berewyn, IL and made her transition to be with her Lord on January 10, 2006. At 84 she had moved from being a Chicago girl to a Sedona artist after living in Scottsdale and Phoenix. In 1941 she married Jerry Skarecky in Chicago, had four children and moved from Riverside, Illinoi to Scottsdale, Arizona where they owned La Vista Grande Resort. During this time she wore many hats as part of the Scottsdale Players. Later as a single Mom she was an active member of the St. Francis Choir, loved working in the gift shop, being involved with her sorrority and later becoming a (popular) manager of the Old Olive Tree Gallery on Scottsdale's 5th Avenue. It was there she began to explore her own artistic talents by taking lessons and winning prizes for her efforts. All of her four children, Diane and Don Hedrick, The Colony, Tx., Dennis and Bobbye Skarecky, Phoenix, Dick and Donna Skarecky, Gilbert, and Doug Skarecky (Pam Flodman), Irvine, Calif. have benefited greatly from her art. Her grandchildren, Jason Ragsdale of Tx., Debi and Chris Hall, Ga., Darren and Heather, Gilbert, Ariz., Denise and Derek (deceased) of Phoenix were convinced that when she lived below the "S" mountain in Sunnyslope it was because it stood for Skarecky! Later Dale and Dora of Connecticut enjoyed visiting her in Sedona. Also Vi enjoyed being a great grandmother to 6 great-grand children. She did love her dogs, a really good deal, angels, fabulous hats, matching shoes, eating out, her music, always singing, old movies, second hand stores, roses in her garden, flowers on her clothes and spending time with friends, especially her neighbor next door, Marlene Auburn, and her caregiver Trish Calalono and the dear members of her Bible Study Class. She went so peacefully after just a short illness. A memorial service will be held at the Westcott Funeral Home, 1013 E. Mingus Avenue, Cottonwood, Ariz. on Saturday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the Sedona Library, 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona, Arizona, 86336, where she volunteered many hours, or to the charity of your choice.
