The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 11/12/2004 Gerald M. Johnson 90, died Nov. 3, 2004 at the home of his daughter, Alana Martineau, in Gilbert. He was born March 13, 1914 in Lakeside to Louis and Theresa Johnson and was a lifelong resident of the White Mountains. He married Sue Penrod Johnson on July 24,1942. They had been married for 57 years at the time of her death. He loved the White Mountains where he enjoyed his family, ranch, and cattle. He was employed with the AZ Dept. of Transportation for 33 years, serving as Foreman of the Highway Maintenance Dept for 17 of those years. During his lifetime he lived in Lakeside, Show Low, Vernon and had a winter home in Green Valley. He was an Army veteran of WWII and served in the European theater. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many capacities. He is survived by his children, Wendell Ray Johnson, Gerald V. Johnson, Alana S. Martineau, Patti L.Johnson-Whitney, and Shane M. Johnson. Two sisters and three brothers, 21 grandchildren, 52 great grand children and 15 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Lilly in 1940,and his second wife Sue Johnson in 2000 and his children, Merene Johnson, Gerald Johnson Jr., and Jerry Schmid. Services were held Monday, Nov. 8, at the downtown Show Low Chapel at 11 a.m. with viewing at 9:30. Internment will follow at Lakeside cemetery. See Also: Find A Grave |
