Dorothy Virginia Taylor passed away June 29 at Thunderbird Hospice of the Valley in Glendale, following a lengthy illness. She was born Dorothy Virginia Soward on April 17, 1915 in Parsons, Kan., to John D. Soward and Myrtle O. Dargitz Soward. Dorothy was raised there and later married Paul S. Taylor on July 7, 1935. They made their home in Rosemead, Calif., during which time Paul was serving in the U.S. Army. Following his military services, they established Taylor's Herb Garden in Rosemead, Calif., and expanded the business over time to three locations, one of which still exists in Congress, Ariz. In 1978, they closed the Rosemead location and moved to the Vista, Calif., location, where they remained involved in the family business. During that time, Dorothy was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and active in the Business and Professional Women's Association, and served as president while her husband Paul had been the Mayor of Rosemead, Calif. In 1995, they moved to Congress to be near their daughter. They enjoyed their continued involvement in the family business there in Congress. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Paul S. Taylor, on Jan. 26, 2000, and a son Paul David Taylor, on July 21, 1969. She is survived by a sister Jean Childress of Sun City West; son Kent of Vista, Calif.; daughter Jean Langley of Congress and son Paul; nine grandchildren Paul, Dan, Carl, Toni, Christy, and Sue Taylor, Tiffany Edwards, Virginia Bledsoe, Dwayne Langley; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. No formal services will be held, and the family suggests any memorial contributions in Dorothy's memory be made to R&R Respite Care Center, 246 N. Washington Street, Wickenburg, AZ 85390 or to the Alzheimer's Foundation. See Also: Find A Grave |
