The Wickenburg Sun Clyde H. LaMar passed away Dec. 5, 2004, at Del Webb Hospital in Sun City West, Ariz.He was born Dec. 4, 1915 in Virgil, Kan., the son of C.H. and Ila LaMar. His parents had moved to Northern Arizona in 1917, the father taking a position with Santa Fe Railway. In 1923, the family came to Hot Springs Junction (now Morristown), still with Santa Fe Railway. Clyde was raised there. He graduated from Morristown Grammar and Wickenburg High School. Clyde's first employment was with Pay-N-Takit Store, now the Safeway in Wickenburg. Then he worked for Castle Hot Springs for a season. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 during World War II.He was stationed at the Federal Internment Camp in Florence, Ariz., and was given the rating of Warrant Officer. It was there he met long-time resident Ruby Sparks, and they were wed on Oct. 17, 1942, in the Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg. Clyde was transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah, as a finance clerk for the remainder of his three-year service. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the American Defense Medal.After his discharge, Clyde and Ruby returned to Florence, Ariz., where they made their home for years. They are the parents of daughters Barbara Pisano of Coolidge, Linda Parker of Buckeye and Susan Cooper of Mesa.In Florence, Clyde worked at the state prison in the finance department and spent some time in the court system, with one term as Clerk of the Court for Pinal County. He was a Third Degree Mason and Past Master of the Florence Lodge F. & A.M. He was also a member of the American Legion and Lions Club. On retirement, they moved to their summer place in Overgaard, Ariz., for several enjoyable years. Clyde developed a breathing problem that forced them to move to lower altitude, so they settled in Goodyear. Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Ruby; their three daughters; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother Dwight (Marie) LaMar of Winslow, Ariz.; and sisters Ena (Erwin) McGuire of Morristown and Ila May (John) Sutherlin of Glendale, Ariz.After cremation, memorial services will be held in the Morristown Christian Fellowship Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 11) with Pastor Mike Jones officiating Taken from Wickenburg Sun 12/08/2004 See Also: Find A Grave |
