Bill Hanger

Billy Donovan Hanger was the fifth of six children born to the late Cecil Burr Hanger and Mildred Nellie Hubbard Hanger. He was born on May 10, 1926 in Pocasset, Okla., and died April 26, 2009 in Tishomingo, Okla.

Bill attended Glendale High School in Glendale, Ariz. He left his sophomore year to join the Navy and enter into his country’s service in World War II. Bill proudly served in the Navy’s Armed Guard.

Upon his discharge, Bill finished his schooling then started his career in law enforcement that lasted a lifetime. He retired as a lieutenant after 23 years in the Arizona Highway Patrol, 18 years as an elected judicial official in Arizona Justice Court and seven years as City Magistrate in Wickenburg, Ariz., before making Tishomingo his home.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jerry; daughter and son-in-law Nellie and Craig Garone of Milburn, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Carolyn Hanger of Center Moriches, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Tyler and Chris Garone and Brooke and J.T. Hanger; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sandi and Jim Hartman of Wickenburg, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no service, which was Bill’s request. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund at Murray State College to benefit the Criminal Justice Department. Donations in Bill’s honor should be made out to Murray State College Foundation, c/o Murray State College, One Murray Campus, Tishomingo, OK 73460.
