Evangelina N. Melendez July 4, 2009 Evangelina N. Melendez of Willcox died July 4, 2009, in Safford at the age of 75. She was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, on April 29, 1934, to Gregorio and Micaela Salazar Nieto. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. On Oct. 1, 1960, in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, she married Manuel Melendez, and they moved to Arizona. He preceded her in death Aug. 3, 2004. Survivors include her daughters, Teresa (Steve) Harris of Bullhead City, Delia (Joe) Franco of Willcox and Evangelina (Ted) DeBruler of Safford; and her sons, Victor Melendez of Tucson and Gerardo Melendez of Willcox. Also surviving are her brothers, Jesus (Isabela) Nieto of Willcox and Bernardino (Dolores) Nieto of El Paso, Texas; and a sister, Otilia Acosta of Selma, Calif., along with 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A rosary was offered Wednesday, July 8, at Westlawn Chapel. A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery.
