| Roberta (Bert) Smith, 84, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2006 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was born on January 9, 1922 in Ann Arbor, MI. Bert was a 1943 graduate from the University of Michigan (in her hometown of Ann Arbor). She taught elementary school for over 35 years. A life-long teacher at heart, she volunteered locally as a teaching assistant for remedial reading at the Nautilus School. Bert was an active volunteer in this community since 1982, when she retired here with her husband, Ogden (Bud) Smith. She was a charter member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, a women educatorâ?Ts society. As a long-time member of AAUW (American Association of University Women), she co-founded the Lake Havasu branch and was a two-term past branch president. Bert served on the board of Interagency Council, as well as serving "Havasu For Youth". Additionally, Bert was an active member of Kiwanis and DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). An important part of Bert's life during her 24 years in Lake Havasu City was the Community Presbyterian Church, where she served as a church elder and deacon. Berta was well traveled and interested in history and spent many years researching her genealogy. She married Bud in 1945 and moved to Rochester, NY; where she taught at Brighton Schools and raised three sons. Her upbeat and optimistic attitude will be missed by her family and many friends. Berta is survived by her sons, Doug Smith and wife Joan of Rochester, NY; Steve Smith and wife Sally of Glenwood Springs, CO; Tom Smith and wife Diane of Hemlock, NY; brother John Holland of Michigan as well as five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A memorial service will be held at Community Presbyterian Church, 3450 Chemehuevi Blvd; Lake Havasu City AZ; on Friday, March 24, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. A reception will follow.
