| A. Fred Baker, 80, died May 3, 2003 in Show Low. Fred was born in Woodhull, New York and grew up in the Western Southern tier of the state. After high school he started driving truck. He soon bought his own tractor-trailer rig and worked hauling for a construction company for a time. He moved around some and lived in Florida for a few years. In 1978, he made his home in Tucson where he lived until 1999, when he and his wife moved to Show Low. Fred drove truck most of his life and hauled all kinds of freight, mostly with the New England States, and in the Southwest he hauled cars. He had been a member of the Overdrive Roadmasters Association. Fred is survived by his wife, Esther Baker of Show Low; one son, William A. Baker of Lady Lake, Florida; two daughters, Virginia Toor of Honeoye, New York and Sharon Hewitt of Trinity, North Carolina; six step-children, Thomas R. McCumber, George E. McCumber of Tucson, John F. McCumber of Mayfield, New York, Burton K. McCumber of Houston, Texas, Harold F. McCumber of Troy, New York, and Shirley Porter of Grand Island, Florida; two sisters, Eleanor Leach of Jasper, New York, and Geraldine "Pat" McGrath of Warsaw, New York; one brother, Chester Baker of Geneva, New York; 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
