Shirley Fay Bloomstone, 76, died at the Carriage House in Snowflake Sept. 10, 2006. Shirley was born in Scranton, Pa., the younger of two girls, to Harry and Rose Golob. Her parents had immigrated to the United States from Russia. Shirley grew up in Scranton and attended school there. In 1952 the family moved to Los Angeles, Calif. Shirley attended business college during her early 20s. She then became an accounting clerk. She worked for the State of California and retired from the City of Los Angeles Library system in 1994. In her spare time she loved to paint with oils. She also loved to pot flowers and grow roses. She was an avid reader and spent lots of time sitting on her porch with a book. Shirley was very fond of dogs and had many special companions over the years, especially her Spaniel, Cody. For the past 16 months she has been under the exceptional care of The Carriage House in Snowflake. She had many friends there and loved Patti and Larry. Shirley will be dearly missed by all. Shirley is survived by a son, Joel Bloomstone of Show Low; a daughter, Sherry Vavla of Grenada Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jason Bloomstone, Andrew Bloomstone, Ryan Vavla, and Laurie Tuttle; one sister, Dorothy Lerner of Austin, Texas; and one nephew, Alan Lerner of Kalispell, MT Services will be held Friday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at Owens Mortuary, Show Low, with a viewing one-hour prior to service.
