The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona March 19, 2003 Wilma Ella Laurin, daughter of Charles and Eva QUERBACH, passed away peacefully on March 13 at the age of 88 in the Odyssey Hospice, Mesa, Arizona, five weeks after a complicated hip fracture. Wilma was born in Allegan, Michigan, April 5, 1914, the oldest of 7 children, graduated from Allegan High School, then went on to teach elementary school. She met Wilfrid LAURIN, a French speaking Canadian, married him in 1934 and moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan. They lived most of their lives in a house they built themselves in Kalamazoo where they raised three boys, Dale, Dean and David. Wilfrid and Wilma retired and traveled extensively in the USA and Canada before settling in Tucson, Arizona in 1977. Wilfrid passed away in 1998 and Wilma lived at the Citadel Retirement Center in Mesa, not far from her sons, Dale and Dean. Wilma will always be remembered as a very kind, compassionate and classy lady, who made people around her happy and comfortable. Her mottoes were "go with the flow' and "don't bicker or find fault'. She had a good sense of humor. She was also an accomplished artist with many fine oil paintings on display at her family's homes. Wilma is survived by her sons, Dale, Dean and David and their wives, Sandy, Mala, and Karen; brothers Glen, Rex and Wayne and her sisters Vivian, Evelyn and Suzanne; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Memorial service held in Michigan. Memorial donations in Wilma's name may be sent to your local Alzheimer's Association. |
