The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, November 6, 1969 Last of Rough Riders, William Carleton, dead The last of Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders has passed away, according to word received at the Whipple VA Center. Rough Rider, William Carleton, who trained at the old Fort Whipple Cavalry Post, died recently in Inglewood, California. He served as a master sergeant in the U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment that Roosevelt organized and led in the fighting during the Spanish – American War in 1898. |
