John E. Drexler

John E. Drexler, 72, of Show Low, passed away Saturday, September 27th, at a Phoenix hospital following a sudden illness.

He was born August 6, 1936, at Milford, Iowa, the son of John Sylvester and Bessie (Locey) Drexler. He was raised and attended school in Milford, graduating in 1954. Following graduation, he entered the United States Air Force.

He was married to the former Peggy Anderson on March 16, 1957, at Austin, Texas. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran having earned the Bronze Star and the Joint Service Commendation. He lived in many places around the country and around the world during his military service. He retired from the Air Force in 1976 and began working at Lansdale Electronics where he worked for twelve years. He then began a career with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. He was a radio operator / technician and kept the radios of DPS and ADOT all over the mountain in working order. He retired from DPS in 2001. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church, a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Show Low Post 9907, the American Legion and the Ham Radio Club.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy, of the home; four daughters, Stephanie Clark of Show Low; Teresa Heap and husband Gary of New Orleans; Donna McFarland of Flagstaff; Rachel and husband Cliff Conrad of Show Low; three sisters, Ruth Hargrave of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Rose Matheson of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Diana Lindsay of Milford, Iowa; a brother, Andrew Drexler of Virginia; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son John E. Drexler, II and three sisters Pauline, Darlene and Betty.

Viewing will be Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the mortuary and from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at St. Rita Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. at St. Rita. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Ifunanya Aneke at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at St. Rita. Burial will follow at Show Low Cemetery with Military Honors performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9907 of Show Low.
