Jean (Prince) Edens

Jean Prince Edens, 87, of Show Low died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, in Payson. Jean was born April 8, 1921, in Knoxville, Tenn.

She attended high school in Birmingham, Ala. During World War II she attended training in Nashville, Tenn., to determine repairs to be performed on aircraft at Eglin Army Air Base in Florida.
After the war, she trained as a health information specialist and worked at Jefferson Hillman Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.
She married Bert Wilkinson, an architect and engineer from New Orleans, La.

While living in New Orleans, she learned the art of Cajun cooking in culinary school. In 1950, they moved to McNary where Bert died in 1954.
The same year she became the manager of the Guest House for Southwest Forest Industries in McNary. The Guest House was a private bed and breakfast where executives and customers of Southwest Forest Industries stayed and had meetings. Guests considered her one of the best cooks around.

She married her second husband, Robert Edens, in 1962.

In 1982, Southwest Forest Industries moved the Guest House (a two-story 5,000 square foot house) from McNary to the Pinetop Lakes Country Club. She managed the Guest House until 1992, when she retired.
After her retirement, she lived in the Show Low area until she moved into assisted living in Lakeside and Payson. Her hobbies included bird watching and gardening. Her friends and family will miss her.
Her husband, Robert Edens, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her brother, Harwood (Frances) Prince of Indianapolis, Ind.; two stepsons, Ben (Isabelle) Edens of Kemp, Texas, and Frank Edens of Show Low; three grandchildren, Anna (Jeff) Smith of Danville, Va., Neil Edens of Cleburne, Texas, and Kate Edens of Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, in the chapel of Black's Mortuary in Show Low, with Pastor Carl Nielson officiating. Burial was at Show Low Cemetery.
