Catherine Garcia (October 21, 1963 - April 11, 2008) Catherine "Kat" Garcia, 44, of Whiteriver passed away Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Whiteriver I.H.S. Hospital. Kat was born October 21, 1963, in Whiteriver, the daughter of Hupp and Elisa (Armstrong) Sanchez, Sr. She grew up in Whiteriver and graduated from Alchesay High School in 1981. She was married to Joaquin Garcia, Sr. on December 28, 1982 in Holbrook. She had worked as a secretary for several tribal agencies and also at Alchesay School. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, family and friends. She was a fun loving, easy going person who did not hesitate to be of help to anyone. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Whiteriver. Survivors include her husband, Joaquin Garcia, Sr.; three sons, Joaquin Garcia, Jr., Mitchell Garcia and Sanchez Xavier Garcia all of Whiteriver; four sisters, Argenita Sanchez, Lucy Mae Yazzie and Elizabeth Goklish of Whiteriver and Barbara Jean Sanchez of Kayenta; two brothers, Hupp Sanchez, Jr., of Whiteriver and Harpbert Sanchez of Cedar Creek; a grandson, Keon James Garcia of Whiteriver. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Elijah Carlos Garcia. A wake will begin at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 17th, at her residence, 309 W. Saddle Street in Whiteriver. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dan Fronske at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 18th at St. Francis Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Whiteriver Cemetery.
