The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, July 29, 2009 Bessie Helen Shidler, 93, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., born Nov. 1, 1915, in McDonald, Kan., passed away July 27, 2009, in Prescott Valley. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Sunrise Funeral Home with services following at 11 a.m. at Sunrise Funeral Home. Sunrise Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. ------------------------------------ The Camp Verde Bugle, Camp Verde, Arizona Tuesday, July 28, 2009 Bessie Helen Dungan Shidler went to be with the Lord July 27, 2009 at age 93. Bessie was born in McDonald Kansas Nov. 1, 1915 to Earnest F. and Anna C. Dungan. She married Marvin Reed and moved to Escondido, Ca. and worked for Sunkist Packing Company. During World War II she was active in the USO sending boxes and cookies to service men. They moved to Colton, Ca. in 1942 where she raised her two children. She worked for Lovell's Colton Pharmacy. From there she went to Norton AFB as manager of base restaurants. There she met Mr. Richard "Dick" Naugle, Civilian Administrator. When he started the Del Taco restaurants in Riverside, Ca., Bessie became a manager for Del Taco Restaurant. She later became set-up supervisor, hiring and training for new stores with Naugles Restaurants. She worked for Naugles until her retirement at age 70 setting up new stores all over California, Utah, and Texas. She moved to Prescott Valley, Az. in 1997 with her husband, Albert Shidler. In 2002 she moved to Cottonwood, to be near her daughter. She resided at Rio de Oro Mobile Home Park and Cottonwood Village. After a serious fall & injury, she became a resident at Prescott Valley Samaritan Center in Prescott Valley. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Marvin D. Reed and her husband of 38 years, Albert L. Shidler. She leaves behind her daughter, Ruth Hewitt (Tom) of Cottonwood, Az., a son, Ray E. Reed of Roseburg, Or., four step-children; Loretta VandenBrooke of Victorville, Ca., Portia Roe of Carlsbad, Ca., Mickey Shidler of Fair Oaks, Ca., Terry Shidler of Palm Desert, Ca., six grandchildren,and numerous step-grandchildren. Bessie's two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. Bessie was a loving mother, wife, grand-mother, great and great-great-grandma. She will be remembered for her love of family get-togethers, church, and dog, Buster. She was a gracious hostess at many church functions and family dinners. Bessie always had a smile for everyone and she loved her nurses at Prescott Valley Samaritan Center. Her humor and love for God made her a very special lady. Viewing will be held at 10 a.m. with the service following at 11 a.m. at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley on Thursday, July 30th. Pastors Dennis Richardson and Jack Pease, of Verde Valley Nazarene will be officiating. Information was given by the family. |
