The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, July 28, 2009 Bert "Poppa" McDaris, a Prescott Valley/Prescott, Ariz., resident, born July 1, 1932, in Inola, Okla., to Ernest and Minnie McDaris, went home to be with his Lord on July 22, 2009. Bert is survived by his children, Beverly Grimm and husband Roy of Prescott, Ariz., who lovingly cared for her father until he passed; Gwendolyn Mareno and husband Gary of Bakersfield, Calif.; Karen Brown and her husband Butch of Bakersfield, Calif.; and Jimmy McDaris and wife Blanca of Bakersfield, Calif.; step-children Johnny Cozart of Oklahoma and Natalie Kirk of Taft, Calif.; brother Jim McDaris of Arlington, Va.; sister June Weaver of Watsonville, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Bert was preceded in death by his wife Louise in October 2006, his son Donald Ray McDaris in April 2009 and his grandson Donald Ray McDaris Jr. in June 2009. Bert was an avid fan of the Diamondbacks as well as Nascar. He had a great love for his family, gardening and animals, and enjoyed traveling, taking yearly trips to Quartzite. A celebration of his life will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, at Mountain View Cemetery with graveside services. A special, special thank you to Roy, Beverly's husband, who has been her source of strength and moral support during this time. A thanks to Patty Schummer for everything she has done. The family would like to send a special thank you to Granite Mountain Home Care and Hospice and the wonderful caregivers, with a special thank you to Opal CNA, Tiffany CNA, April RN, Loyd RN, Mark RN, Anita, Marty and Doctor Doyle, as well as Butch Hampton of Hampton Funeral Home and his staff.
