The White Mountain Independent Show Low, Arizona 01/07/2003 Helen G. Crocker (08/08/1919 - 12/28/2002) Helen was born Aug. 8, 1919 in Whiteriver. She was a Head Start teacher for many years, and also worked with the Apache Bilingual program. She helped author several books and also an Apache dictionary. Helen costarred in the movie "Origins of the Apache Crown Dancers." She loved her traditional ways and was a faithful Apache. In her later years she lived in Shiprock with her daughter. Helen is survived by her daughter, Corliss C. Shirley of Shiprock, New Mexico; two sisters, Rhonda Lavender and Nina Quesada; two goddaughters, Carolin Lupe and Valerie Aquino; 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 3 at the Whiteriver Open Bible Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Whiteriver Cemetery. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
