The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona 07/11/2003 Dustin (11/06/1985-07/05/2003) Dustin Hosteen Nez, 17, died July 5, 2003 in Whiteriver. Dustin was born in Whiteriver where he lived all of his life. He was a member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe and was to be a senior at Alchesay High School this fall. He was an athlete and was on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He was a member of the National Native American Honor Society and played in the high school band. Dustin was also a member of the Ft. Apache Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dustin was a humble, hardworking compassionate person who believed in education and always strived to succeed in whatever he did; he received many awards for his achievements he set out to do. He enjoyed being with his cousins, the outdoors and enjoyed working in the garden with his mother. He is survived by his parents, Oliver Lee "Tinker" and Phoebe Nez of Whiteriver; two brothers, Sky Nez, and Darin Nez; one sister, Olivia Nez; grandparents, Grant Jr. and Pearl Lee of Show Low. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Miriam Edwards. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 11 at 10 a.m. at the Ft. Apache Branch Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be in the Whiteriver Cemetery. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements. See Also: Find A Grave |
