Bernice Alice Webb, 91, passed away on June 25 in Wickenburg. Bernice was born in Wallace, Neb., on May 4, 1918 to Clarence and Elsie Webb.

She attended elementary school in North Platte, Neb. In 1925 as a 7-year-old, Bernice lost her beloved mother Elsie. Then in 1934 as a teenager, Bernice and her family including her new stepmother Frances, faced another adversity when the drought forced them to sell out and move their farming operation. They established a successful dairy farm in Prosser, Wash., where Bernice graduated from high school in 1936.

Bernice graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Yakima, Wash., in 1940 and was a dedicated registered nurse throughout her adult life. First, she worked as an industrial nurse for the Boeing Company in Seattle, Wash., during World War II. After the war, she worked as an office nurse in Prosser. In 1957 Bernice moved to Wickenburg where she worked for Dr. Paul Liewer until her retirement in 1983.

Bernice was a longtime member of the Yarnell Community Presbyterian Church. She loved to explore the Arizona desert with friends. After her retirement she extended her exploration to far-away places including Europe, the Middle East, Indonesia, and the Galapagos Islands.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Gene Webb. She is survived by her sister Coleen Pickard of Prosser; brothers Ron (Dee) Webb of Lakeside, Mont.; Ben (Hazel) Webb of Pasco, Wash.; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and her dear friend Adonna (Jack) Gladden of Wickenburg.

The family would like to thank the staff at My Father’s Retirement Ranch and Hospice of Arizona for their loving care, which allowed Bernice to realize her wish to live out her life in her adoptive hometown of Wickenburg.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of Arizona.

Final arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home & Crematory.
