The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ July 22, 2009 Betty Lou Metzler, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 17 in Blythe, Calif., with her daughter and son at her side. Betty was born May 28, 1921 in Jacksonville, Fla., to Arden and Ruth Ackert. She married Donald R. Metzler on March 12, 1954, in Panama City. Betty was a longtime schoolteacher at Rolando and La Mesa Dale elementary schools in La Mesa, Calif. Betty and Don had lived in Wickenburg, Ariz., for the last 23 years. Betty’s unconditional love, Catholic faith, love for her children, love for her departed husband, as well as her volunteer work at the Wickenburg church and museum, have touched the lives of many people. She is survived by her children Donald R. Metzler, Jr. (Diana) and Lynn Brunet (William); her grandchildren Monty Metzler, Brent Metzler, Alexia Brunet, Tyler Brunet, and Garrett Brunet; as well as many friends. Services for Betty will be held on Aug. 14 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., where she will be buried next to her husband. |
