Jayne Anker went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 24, in Sun City, Ariz.

Jayne was born Oct. 25, 1929 in Africa at Wembo Nyama, Belgian Congo, to Methodist missionary parents Harry and Eva Anker. Jayne was home schooled by her mother through the elementary grades except for the fourth grade in South Holland, Ill., when her parents were on furlough.

Jayne left her African village boarding school in the seventh grade, coming home only for Christmas and summer holiday since it was a two-day trip by car. While attending Central School for Missionaries Children at Lubondai Presbyterian Mission Station, she made many life-long friends. Jayne went to Ashbury College in Kentucky, graduating with a degree in psychology. Jayne spent the next 38 years teaching school in West Virginia, Virginia, Florida and the Congo.

Jayne moved to Wickenburg permanently in 1994 after spending several winters here. She was active in the Wickenburg community. She was a member of the Desert Caballeros Western Museum where she volunteered many hours until recently and was a docent. As a member of Las Senoras de Socorro, she enjoyed being a hostess during the annual home tour. Jayne was a member of the Wickenburg Lioness Club and the TRI-Point Retired School Employees Association. Jayne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg where she faithfully served as an elder and deacon. She was a long-time member of the Mission Committee, the Friday Morning Prayer Group, and Presbyterian Women. Jayne participated in the Walk to Emmaus and a short-term mission trip to Mexico.

Jayne was preceded in death by her parents and her bother Pierre.

She will be greatly missed by the many friends she made throughout her lifetime and her four very special friends Hercules, Mooshie, Dolly Molly, and Charlie Brown (a yorkie-poo and three shih-tzu dogs).

A celebration of Jayne's life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday (April 3) at Wickenburg Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Mission Fund in her name.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home & Crematory.
