Twenty-three years ago on December 3, 1982, my brother, Vicente Joaquin Perez, was born, forty-one minutes passed midnight on Sunday, August 13, Vicente Joaquin Perez passed on due to a car accident on his way home from a concert in Flagstaff, Arizona. He died doing what he enjoyed doing most, living his life the way he wanted and doing the things that he wanted to.

Whether it was attending concerts of his favorite rap, reggae or alternative artist, laughing at the outrageousness of Carlos Mencia at one of his shows, praising the Kansas City Chiefs in the football stands of Kansas City, attending wrestling matches to see who would be the next Heavyweight Champion of the World or rooting on the LA Dodgers at their games with his friends by his side, he made it sure he experienced it all.

Hobbies of all sorts littered his life. Not afraid of getting hurt, he
would jump on his mountain bike and ambush the hills and trails of Southern California, Northern Arizona and almost anywhere and everywhere he could find them. His latest ride was the Whiskey Road Off Road in May held in Prescott where he placed third in his division.

Homer Simpson, one of Vicente's most beloved role models, is acknowledged by an overflowing collection of Simpson memorabilia. Of course, he thrived for coming to the rescue of computer failure.

And, to add yet another hobby, he recently purchased 1983 944 Porsche that he was eager and anticipating the labor of getting it restored.

Vicente was born in Oxnard, California. He grew up in Fillmore, attended school there and made forever-lasting friendships.

After ravaging the streets of Fillmore, it was time for him to make a change, so he picked up his things and moved to San Diego, Calif. He earned his GED and continued his education at Coleman College where he received his certificate in Computer Networking in the summer of 2004.

Vicente had plans of pursuing his education in hopes of earning his Bachelor of Science. Soon after graduating, he decided to make the move to Arizona with our father and begin his career as a newly certified computer technician. He began work at the Yavapai Gaming Agency in Prescott as their MIS tech, and continued there for a year and a half until recently being transferred to the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribal Office as a Network Admin. With the potential and opportunity of advancement, he was to begin further training in Austin, Texas, later this fall. Despite saving computers on a daily basis, he always made an attempt to attend and volunteer for company events. He had an aura about him, that to those he worked with, Vicente was more like family than just a co-worker was.

If Vicente had the opportunity to go somewhere, he took it. He never let the impediments of life hinder him from making it happen and from fully enjoying the things he loved. He has survived several hurdles as well as overcoming and surviving his battle with cancer that he was diagnosed with late last year. He always seemed to have an easy answer to life despite the obstacles that it placed in front of him. Vicente lived his life in the present with passion for the things that mattered most.

In our hearts, Vicente, you will always be a survivor, a leader, and the person with the biggest heart in the world. We are at ease knowing that you will be watching over us. We love you so very much.

Vicente is joining in heaven his best friend, his confidant, our brother, Jose; our grandfathers, Cibrado Perez and Reyes Gonzalez; and our great-grandmother, Lupe Razo.

Vicente is loved, cherished, adored and survived by our parents, Henry Perez and Rosa Gonzalez; myself, his sister Valeria; our grandmothers, Natividad Razo and Guillermina Montoya; and all of his family and friends.

Vicente was laid to rest in Fillmore, California. He is now, after 15 years, reunited with his brother in the town they grew up in.

Memorial services are pending.
