Lawrence Diaz

Lawrence "Larry" S. Diaz, 78, of Superior, passed away Friday, September 13, 2002.

Mr. Diaz was born June 8, 1924, in Cottonwood, Arizona, and was raised in Prescott.

During World War II, Mr. Diaz enlisted in the United States Navy, serving four years on the U.S.S. Monrovia. He also served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged, proudly serving both branches of the service, and returned to Prescott.

Later, he moved to Superior where he worked for the Magma Copper Company as a hard rock miner and where he served as an officer in the union Local 938. He retired in 1982.

As an involved Superior citizen, Mr. Diaz was a former president of the Los Reyes Club and volunteered at the Superior Food Bank.

He will be sorely missed.

Mr. Diaz is survived by his wife, Della Diaz; children, Sylvia Robles, Nancy Holguin, Priscilla Unsworth, Della Rodriguez, John Diaz and Delores Gomez; a sister, Isabel (Augustin) Olvera; a brother, Ted (Tencha) Diaz; a sister-in-law, Dora Diaz; and brothers-in-law, Robert Martinez and Ysidro Molina. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. A brother, Louie Diaz, preceded him in death.

A Rosary was recited for Mr. Diaz at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Mass was celebrated Thursday, September 19.
