Bud Tomerlin

Bud Tomerlin, 77, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at the Odyssey Hospice Home in Tucson.

Born June 30, 1925, in Phoenix, he moved to Superior with his parents as a young child and attended school there and before graduating from high school, he entered the army serving in World War II. He was stationed in Italy.

He was a member of the 412th Engineer Battalion during the Korean War and served as Master Sargent of Company A in Colorado Springs, CO and Yuma, AZ.

After returning from the war, he graduated from high school and married his wife of 53 years, Joyce Maynard.

He worked for Magma Copper Company in Superior until 1959 when he and his wife and their three children moved to San Manuel where he lived until his death.

He was the owner of Bud’s Union 76 Station for 22 years until his early retirement in 1970. He was an active member of the Rotary Club and past president. As a life time member of the Elk’s Club which spanned 53 years, he spent 43 of those years at Elk’s Lodge #2002 in San Manuel.

In addition, he was Post Commander of the Superior Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of San Manuel; sister, Helen McKelvey, of Superior; daughters, Debra (Jim) Scofield, of SaddleBrooke and Tina (Jim) Dowell, of San Manuel; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

His son, Chuck and daughter, Wende; parents, Richard and Lucy and eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

The family would like to invite all of his family and friends to the San Manuel Elk’s Club at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, to celebrate his life.

He considered himself a very lucky man to have lived a long lifetime surrounded by a loving family and wonderful friends.
